Have fun teaching review

600610_10151824790070537_1546498965_n

In our recent journey of homeschooling I came across these awesome YouTube videos by Have Fun Teaching. They go through the entire alphabet first as the song and then each letter individually.
They also have songs that count by 1's, 2's, 3's and so on.
So here are my thoughts on these songs and what you can expect.

My Likes
Each song is upbeat. The pictures in the video change often enough to keep a child's attention. I love the letter songs because he has your child draw the letter in the air. He goes through the sounds that each letter makes. He uses words to tell a short story that use that current letter or vowel sound. Number songs are a little slower but start to get faster. The videos rang from preschool to 3rd or 4th grade level. The numbers and letters get flashed multiple times to make sure your child sees it

My Dislikes
I will be honest at this moment I don't really have any. My kids love them and they can't wait to watch them every day.

McGuffey's Primer - FREE

mcguffeyfirst

Yep you saw it here first the McGuffey's Primer is FREE to read online. I love it! Here is my short little review. Yes it does have it's up and downs.
I use the "read on-line" feature because it offers a few unique things.

My likes
  • You can zoom in and out depending on how far away your computer screen is compared to where your child is sitting.
  • There are 8 ways you can read it. Plus you can send it to your kindle.
  • You open the reader in a one page format, two page format or all page format.
  • It's FREE
  • I love the layout of the primer. It literally looks the same, except there is no way your child can rip pages. Yeah!
My Dislikes
  • If you don't hit the pause button right away on the Primer it will keep turning the pages
  • You can turn the audio on and it will read it to your child, however it is really choppy and the computer voice is a bit on the annoying side.
Fun facts about the McGuffey's Readers
The McGuffey's first primer is great for children ages 3 all the way up and through adulthood that are learning how to read. This might surprise you but over 120 million copies were sold between 1836 and 1960. Since then about 30,000 copies are sold every year. No other text-book bearing one persons name has ever come close to selling that many.
If you would like purchase your own set click the links below. If you would like to purchase the McGuffey's First Primer click here. If you would like to purchase the full complete set Click here.
Did you ever use a McGuffey when you were younger? Do you own your own or plan on using them with your child/ren for school?

Life can be easy!

Homeschooling does have it's up and downs but there is no need to have to pay an arm and a leg for it.
Homeschooling should be something you enjoy to do and not cost you a fortune. I'm still fairly NEW to homeschooling; that is, when it comes to teaching my own kids. However I was home-schooled from 2nd grade  through high-school. I would never take those days or years back for anything. Although now that I'm homeschooling my own 3 kids I find that it is necessary to find curriculum the cheapest and fastest way without having to go to conventions or even paying for it online. Because of today and the internet there are so many FREE resources out there along with resources that are fairly cheap and don't cost you a fortune. Homeschooling your child/ren is so much easier than it was even 5 or 10 years ago. I hope I can help you find ways that may help you in your homeschooling journey that will help save you money.
Now I'm not going to say it's going to be easy, but I sure hope it will help you.
Good luck and enjoy!
